Course Goals and Achievements:

Overall, I feel like I did achieve my course goals. Not only did I improve on my picture taking skills, I also learned what it meant to have different composition in pictures to create a more well-balanced photo with a purpose. Usually I took photos to be "aesthetic" but now I know every picture should have a meaning behind why it was taken the way it was. I also now try to take pictures that command the attention of the viewer whether that be through lighting, different color schemes, and much more. Through working in this class, I now know how to use a camera more efficiently and what to look for in different photographers work! Although I still need more work on figuring out different setting in the actual camera, this course gave me a great start and a push to continue working on my photography skills!!

Emulating A Professional Photographer

I think this is my best photograph because it encapsulates what girls might do to live up to the world "beauty standards." In this case, the tanning bed is used for women who want to enhance their skin to look tanner and more thin. This goes perfectly with Lauren Greenfield's "Girl Culture" series because girl's will use the tanning booths to enhance appearance. I also think this picture is compositionally good because it uses rule of thirds and rule of odds by using the tanning products in the picture. Also, it looks just like Lauren Greenfield's picture because of the monochromatic coloring of the tanning booth UV lights. The most challenging aspect about this challenge was trying to take pictures just like the photographer. It took a little bit of planning out and thinking but overall was very fun to do! In the future, I will try to keep incorporating different techniques of composition I can use in my photos and make sure my lighting is still good.

Blog Comment: This is my favorite photograph because I love how calming the picture is with the waves calmly rippling with the perfect lighting. I just feel like this photo is very aesthetic and peaceful. I feel like the black and white coloring is also a great feature to the photograph.
